How PODpartner's Personalization Feature Works (Step-by-Step)

Since our automated production process is now available for personalized products in Shopify stores, this step-by-step guide will show you how efficient and convenient it is to set up and sell personalized products on Shopify to your customers.

Step 1: Select Your Product

All PODpartner products support customer personalization. You can choose any product from our catalog to make it personalized, or edit an existing product template that can benefit from personalization.

Step 2: Design Your Custom Product

In the Design Creator interface, go to the DTG printing tab at the top and select the area where you want to add a custom layer. Add your custom design—both images and text are supported. Click the "Activate personalization" button in the right sidebar to convert your design into a custom layer. Each product template can have up to 3 custom layers maximum.

Important Notes:
  • Custom layers are optional for your customers. Customers can personalize or keep your default design. If your customer does not add their own design, the default image or text set in the custom layer will be used. You can set the default custom layer to a transparent image or blank text.
  • Please confirm the settings for your custom layers, including both font and image details: font size, font style, position, and alignment; for images, please confirm the maximum size and position. Additionally, take into account the clothing color variants and ensure the font and image colors are properly adapted for optimal contrast and visibility. Please note that once these settings are finalized, customers will not be able to modify them.
  • Embroidery cannot be set as a custom layer. Custom layers currently only support DTG printing, but can coexist with embroidery designs.

Step 3: Publish Product to Your Shopify Store

In the save pop-up, click the "Add to store" button and choose a Shopify store. If you haven't connected a Shopify store yet, you need to install it first. After completing the setup for variants, images, descriptions, pricing, and branding, you can publish the product to your store.

Step 4: Configure Store Product Page Display

Once the product syncs to Shopify, you'll automatically be redirected to the Custom Settings page, where you can edit the display information for the product detail page. You can modify our provided templates or create new personalized templates to describe the personalization service for the product and guide your customers in their design process.

You will need to add custom options on Shopify and adjust its appearance to seamlessly match your store's theme. Once set up, this will apply to all customizable products in your store. Click on our setup instructions for more details.

Step 5: Automated Order and Design Sync to PODpartner

Your custom product setup is now complete! When customers finish their design with the built-in customizer and place an order in your Shopify store, the order automatically syncs to PODpartner. You can preview the customer's product design when processing the order, and edit the design if needed. Once the order is paid, the custom product immediately enters the production phase.

PODpartner allows you to easily add apparel personalization options to your product pages, enabling your customers to add text and upload images directly on your store's frontend to personalize their purchases. This makes your offerings more unique and engaging, without the need for additional paid apps.

2. How to set the price for personalization options?
With PODpartner's personalization features, merchants can set a fixed overall price for the product, including personalization, based on factors such as the complexity and type of personalization before publishing. This means Shopify product personalization costs are included in the product price rather than charged separately. Currently, PODpartner does not support dynamic pricing based on the customer's individual selections; the price must be fixed upfront.

3. Can my customers personalize packaging on Shopify?
Currently, PODpartner allows merchants to personalize packaging bags for their own brand, but our Shopify product customizer does not yet support your customers customizing the packaging themselves.
